Remembering Carol “Bunny” Burkett
Throughout our lives, we are inspired by people along the way. Some of us are lucky enough to meet those that inspire us. You are extremely lucky if you have been befriended by someone who inspires you. I consider myself extremely lucky to have met, had a friendship and been mentored by Carol “Bunny” Burkett.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT
It was recently announced, Bunny passed away peacefully and unexpectedly in her sleep on April 4th, 2020. One specific line in the announcement resonated with me. It read: Remember, Bunny NEVER followed the beaten path … she made her own. She certainly did.
BEGINNING OF A FRIENDSHIP
I met Bunny early on in my career in Drag Racing. It was at Atco Dragway. She was perched on her chair at the back of the trailer signing autographs. I came to know that was a usual occurrence for her. She never wanted anyone to leave disappointed. She spoke to everyone as if she knew them. Everyone mattered. She was as sweet as she was beautiful.
We struck up a friendship from then on. She gave me great advice over the years. A bit of that advice rides with me on every run, with a message she penned inside the door of “Stella”. I give it a quick read and a tap before every run.
THE COMPLETE PACKAGE
For someone who saw such success, she was humble. She broke through that glass ceiling Bunny Ears first and never looked back.. She was the entire package. Beautiful, personable and as competitive as they come! I admired her tenacity.
WOMAN CRUSH WEDNESDAY
Bunny was the subject of my “Woman Crush Wednesday” last March. It’s worth the read to learn more about her. https://dinapariseventures.com/women-crush-wednesday-bunny-burkett/
SAYING GOODBYE
Rest In Peace Bunny. Thank you not only for your dedication to our sport but especially for your dedication to the people who love it. You will be missed.
Sending our sincerest condolences to Mo Burkett and the entire family. Keeping you all in our thoughts.
